Fireworks

There’s a gap in the treeline perfectly placed so we can see the city fireworks from our backyard.

The glow stick was more fun than the fireworks for Jack.  I don’t think they have the same impact at this distance.  But for kids this young, you can’t beat the convenience of watching in your pjs, waiting with toys and TV instead of a crowded lawn, and going straight to bed when they are done.

I call this one “Firework and a Crescent Moon.”

Afternoon surprise

Sam has a fever!  Poor guy was burning up when we got home from lunch.  After nap I gave him some chilled, watered down juice.

Jack insisted I come up to see the zoo he made during quiet time.

Water, water, everywhere

This week was water play at Creekside
Cubs.  Jack also told me they learned about water, such as “you shouldn’t drink water from rivers. But you can eat the fish in rivers.”  So wise.

We are chilling at home, having lunch.  Is Jack’s smile morphing into Sam’s?

Handedness

Sam is clearly right handed.  It surprises me, because my experience with Jack is so different.  Whereas Sam already has a strong preference for holding toys, waving and dancing, and eating with his right hand, Jack STILL hasn’t decided.
The pediatrician says it’s unusual at this age, but not a problem.  I wonder if he’s truly ambidextrous, or if he prefers left but tries to copy others by using his right.
Lately we are working on writing.  I think he has better results when he uses his right hand. Maybe he’s just confused?  It’s funny to watch him change hands.

Sand Festival

We were debating how to spend this precious Saturday morning.  Park?  Backyard wading pool?  Movie?  Then we noticed that the Arvada Sand in the City Festival was this weekend.  Sounded fun, but when we discovered it was only a few blocks from our house, that sold us.  So we walked through the neighborhood to a pretty fun little fair.  We met out friends Mike, Trish, and Ellis (aka Wolfie) to play.

Enjoyed the sand art.  This one, a tribute to the Lego movie, was very popular.  We are indulging in an enormous Froot Loops marshmallow square.

They had one being built so you could watch.

Jack and Ellis admiring a ladybug.  This is incredible for Jack, considering his bug phobia lately.  It crawled on his hat and he did not freak out.  Yay!

There are more pics on my flickr site.  Lots of good food: a plate of Hawaiian pulled pork and grilled chicken with rice and mac salad, freshly fried mini donuts, a wild boar sandwich, funnel cake, and a fried Oreo.  When the kids were cranky and the water bottles empty, we tucked them into the chariot stroller and simply walked home.  A nice way to spend the morning.

Sam Noises

I still haven’t captured one of Sam’s fantastic roars, but this one is decent.

Earlier this week Ben commented that my blog makes Sam seem like the happiest, bestest baby.  For the sake of honesty, this is what some days are full of:
