{"id":893,"date":"2012-10-09T20:42:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-09T20:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eaumaison.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/09\/making-mochi"},"modified":"2012-10-09T20:42:00","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T20:42:00","slug":"making-mochi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eaumaison.us\/index.php\/2012\/10\/09\/making-mochi\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Mochi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/7ccec-img_7239.jpg\" style=\"clear:right;float:right;margin-bottom:1em;margin-left:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/7ccec-img_7239.jpg?w=224\" width=\"298\" \/><\/a>I have not found a source in Denver for fresh mochi.\u00a0 So I made my own!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I&#8217;ll consider this attempt and experiment.\u00a0 The results will not convert anyone to loving mochi.\u00a0 But I think I can improve upon it.<\/p>\n<p>I used a combination of <a href=\"http:\/\/justjennrecipes.com\/mochi-filled-with-nutella\/2011\/01\/27\/\">these<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/allrecipes.com\/recipe\/easy-mochi\/detail.aspx?event8=1&amp;prop24=SR_Title&amp;e11=mochi&amp;e8=Quick%20Search&amp;event10=1&amp;e7=Home%20Page\">two<\/a> recipes.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boil 1 cup water with 1\/4 cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>Add 3 drops red food coloring (which was too much, see below)<\/li>\n<li>Dump in 1 cup mochiko flour<\/li>\n<li>Stir like crazy<\/li>\n<li>Dump onto prepared cutting board (potato starch all over it)<\/li>\n<li>Tear off pieces, pinch around filling, roll in starch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It took minutes to make!\u00a0 So easy, so tempting to try again already.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I used canned An (sweetened red bean paste) and froze it to make portioning and wrapping easier.\u00a0 Apparently Jack will eat spoonful after spoonful of An.\u00a0 Weirdo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, I&#8217;m glad I waited until nap time to make this.\u00a0 The dough is warm-to-hot and you have to work fast.\u00a0 Also, with no baking step, it&#8217;s extra important that no dirty little hands get in the dough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I got the ingredients at Viet-Hoa, an Asian grocery store on Alameda. \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Next time:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Less food coloring. 1-2 drops is plenty.<\/li>\n<li>Flavor the dough.\u00a0 I wonder how they make strawberry in the bakery?<\/li>\n<li>Figure out the best filling to wrap ratio.<\/li>\n<li>Vary the filling.\u00a0 Chocolate? Nutella? Fruit?
