I’ve always wanted to bake one of these. \u00a0I was surprised to learn the recipe is very old: 1856! \u00a0I also learned that for a brief time “pie” and “cake” were interchangeably used because they used the same baking pan. \u00a0Hence the name.<\/p>\n

\nEasy recipe, I was surprised how quickly this came together. \u00a0I made the cake and filling last night, then the ganache this afternoon.<\/p>\n

\nThe recipe said to chill until serving. \u00a0The chocolate looked better fresh and glossy when freshly applied. \u00a0No one seemed to mind. \u00a0I made double the ganache too. \u00a0Unnecessary, I wouldn’t bother next time.<\/p>\n

\nSam couldn’t stand waiting 24 hours to eat the cake. \u00a0We were feeding the missionaries tonight. It’s a great excuse to make a cake, and leftovers are minimal.<\/p>\n

Bonus! \u00a0I made s’mores cookies earlier this week and had an excuse to bust out my blowtorch.<\/p>\n
