{"id":486,"date":"2014-07-16T02:37:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-16T02:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eaumaison.wordpress.com\/2014\/07\/16\/weekend-friends"},"modified":"2014-07-16T02:37:00","modified_gmt":"2014-07-16T02:37:00","slug":"weekend-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eaumaison.us\/index.php\/2014\/07\/16\/weekend-friends\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekend Friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend was an oasis of friendship.\u00a0 I realized I don&#8217;t talk to many adults.\u00a0 Sure, there are librarians and retail workers, teachers and church members.\u00a0 But I don&#8217;t have many friends and I rarely see them anyway.<\/p>\n<p>First I went to Amanda&#8217;s book club on Thursday.\u00a0 Amanda hosted, and played the part perfectly.\u00a0 Her food was delicious, plentiful, and interesting.\u00a0 The room was packed with lovely ladies and the conversation flowed.<\/p>\n<p>Then the starring event: Miranda came to visit!!!\u00a0 Holy crap, I miss that girl.<\/p>\n<p>We did the Baker neighborhood by having brunch at Atomic Cowboy, then lusting over colors and textures at Fancy Tiger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14662747901\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5591\/14662747901_aac4f21737_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14479323759\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3862\/14479323759_9735894381_z.jpg\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14479514037\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3844\/14479514037_55a254bff5_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>  Some quiet visiting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14685867943\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5153\/14685867943_fff999b6da_z.jpg\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14479514037\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><br \/><\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14479291790\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3896\/14479291790_c5009de90c_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a>Then I went to my first concert at Red Rocks &#8211; The Avett Brothers.\u00a0 Miranda is a HUGE fan of them.\u00a0 I definitely see their appeal.\u00a0 They were fabulous performers.\u00a0 I liked a lot of the songs they did.\u00a0 Their variety in sound is impressive and fun; some bluegrass, some hard rock, some folksy, some punk.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14662887031\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5570\/14662887031_dfb02c62c7_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14479340519\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5523\/14479340519_ae95a52834_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><br \/>I&#8217;m not into music.\u00a0 It&#8217;s fine and all, necessary to make dancing happen, and that&#8217;s all good.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m not the type to study to it, clean to it, cling to it, or attend concerts.\u00a0 My first show was at the end of high school (Collective Soul at CU Coors Stadium).\u00a0 My last one was maybe 2007 (Neko Case at Boulder Theater). Probably fewer than 10 concerts in total.\u00a0 I find them too loud, too stinky, too long, too crowded, too expensive, and the sound is always worse than the albums.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear:both;text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14642980176\" style=\"margin-left:1em;margin-right:1em;\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2901\/14642980176_69f6d41750_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>While Red Rocks was crowded and stinky (SO much pot), it was such a beautiful, bizarre place to see a show that the novelty made it fun.\u00a0 Plus like I said, the Avett Brothers were really good.\u00a0 Most every concert I&#8217;ve seen they just play their music.\u00a0 These guys were dancing and shredding cellos and banjos all over the stage, with a well put together lighting design.<\/p>\n<p> Before we got to the amphitheater it started pouring rain.\u00a0 It continued on and off from 6:30 to 10pm, before finally stopping for the last hour.\u00a0 Between the rain and the hike into the theater, I declared this the most camping I have done in the past decade, so I should be good to avoid nature for another ten years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14479330809\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5579\/14479330809_5f129e6d2b_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear:both;text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14642982356\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3853\/14642982356_9d6d7b33f1_z.jpg\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rachelsmason\/14665619042\" style=\"margin-left:1em;margin-right:1em;\" title=\"image by rachelsmason, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5483\/14665619042_aa4927f2ac_z.jpg\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The next day was not nearly so exciting, with a pleasant lunch and a trip to Ikea.\u00a0 Miranda packed up her kids for the long drive home yesterday.\u00a0 It makes me blush that I whine about driving my guys to SLC.\u00a0 She recently finished a trip to Seattle too.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a lot of car time for anyone, even without two kids in tow.<\/p>\n<p>I miss her already, but it&#8217;s nice to have friendships you can pick up again as if you never left.\u00a0 Hopefully next time we can see Nate too, and meet in between our home states.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend was an oasis of friendship.\u00a0 I realized I don&#8217;t talk to many adults.\u00a0 Sure, there are librarians and retail workers, teachers and church members.\u00a0 But I don&#8217;t have many friends and I rarely see them anyway.
