{"id":426,"date":"2014-09-25T20:28:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-25T20:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eaumaison.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/25\/play-dough"},"modified":"2014-09-25T20:28:00","modified_gmt":"2014-09-25T20:28:00","slug":"play-dough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eaumaison.us\/index.php\/2014\/09\/25\/play-dough\/","title":{"rendered":"Play dough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weeks ago the preschool sent out a play dough recipe in a newsletter saying that a sign-up sheet would follow, but it never came.\u00a0 Yesterday I saw a sign on the door &#8220;We need playdough!&#8221;\u00a0 Yesterday I was also sick.* I was <i>crushed<\/i> that I couldn&#8217;t fulfill the request immediately.\u00a0 Today when I brought in three batches (enough for 12 kids) they were thrilled, which made me happy.\u00a0 Seriously guys, I&#8217;m so mad that they won&#8217;t let me send in homemade treats for parties.\u00a0 I get it, I know why they must require all food items to have a label.\u00a0 But stillllll I wish I could baaaaaaake.\u00a0 Homemade play dough?\u00a0 You betcha!\u00a0 I will make all the play dough you want.\u00a0 Closest I can get to homemade cookies and cupcakes.\u00a0 (I wish I had an excuse to make <a href=\"http:\/\/sallysbakingaddiction.com\/2013\/09\/04\/pumpkin-chocolate-chip-cookies\/\">these<\/a>.\u00a0 The ingredients are patiently sitting in my pantry for when I cave.) <\/p>\n<p>The recipe they provided was so  easy.\u00a0 The result was soft, pliable, and smelled good.\u00a0 Much better than  the usual &#8220;salt dough&#8221; recipe.\u00a0 This is my new favorite.\u00a0 I might have  to make more for home use.\u00a0 Here are their instructions.<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<br \/>1 cup flour<br \/>1 Kool-Aid package<br \/>1\u20442 cup salt<br \/>1 cup water<br \/>1 Tablespoon oil<br \/>2 Teaspoons cream of tartar<br \/><i>I added a couple drops of food coloring to the yellow and blue to boost the color<\/i> <\/p>\n<p>Process:<br \/>1. Mix dry ingredients into a saucepan<br \/>2. Add water and oil<br \/>3. Cook until mixture forms a ball <i>(about 1-2 minutes on medium heat)<\/i><br \/>4. Pour out on wax paper or board and knead <i>(dumped on counter, kneaded until smooth, just a minute or so)<\/i><br \/>5. and zero patience.\u00a0 It was not a good day.\u00a0 I slept during both Sam naps and worked very hard at resting instead of cleaning.\u00a0 I think it paid off because I feel much more functional today, even had a dance party with the boys.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since school started we have had continual sickness in the house, just like last year.\u00a0 The pediatrician assures me that 1-3 viruses PER MONTH is totally normal for two kids with at least one of them in a school\/day care environment.\u00a0 Each illness takes at least a week to run it&#8217;s course, multiply by 4 people, and you can understand how we are constantly sick.\u00a0 On the bright side, Jack can take better care of his nose this year, Sam sleeps much better than he did as a newborn infant, and I have resigned myself
