{"id":1810,"date":"2011-04-19T17:44:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-19T17:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eaumaison.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/19\/spring-weaning-and-musings"},"modified":"2011-04-19T17:44:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-19T17:44:00","slug":"spring-weaning-and-musings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eaumaison.us\/index.php\/2011\/04\/19\/spring-weaning-and-musings\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring weaning and musings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear:both;text-align:left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/5cc7f-img_2210.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/5cc7f-img_2210.jpg?w=224\" width=\"239\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0So weaning.\u00a0 Hmm.\u00a0 It&#8217;s hard to get going.\u00a0 I&#8217;m vacillating between slowly taking Jack off breastfeeding and to only milk\/formula in bottles (ie, not decreasing his feedings, just taking me out of the equation) and not doing anything.\u00a0 Just riding it out.<\/p>\n<p>He bites me.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a sudden bite that I can discipline.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a slow, absentminded clamp down that leaves deeps marks on me.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t eat as much when I feed him versus a bottle, so he doesn&#8217;t sleep as well after I feed him.\u00a0 I&#8217;m tired of pumping at work.\u00a0 I broke my pump, in fact.\u00a0 Ben fixed it by wedging a thick fold of paper in the interior.\u00a0 But it worries me that it could break again at work and I won&#8217;t have the time to fix it.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t need that kind of anxiety.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/d5d0d-img_2217.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/d5d0d-img_2217.jpg?w=225\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a>So I&#8217;ve told myself for at least a week now that I&#8217;m going to cut my feedings down from 5 to 1 when I&#8217;m home.\u00a0 Ideally I&#8217;d keep the bedtime feeding.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve made it down to 3.\u00a0 Things keep happening that make me change my course.\u00a0 When I&#8217;m in the moment, I tend to rely on breastfeeding.\u00a0 But then I&#8217;m feeding him and he&#8217;s not getting much and he bites me, and I resolve to quit.\u00a0 Back and forth and back forth.\u00a0 Maybe I should quit cold turkey? I have conflicting feelings about the guilt of switching to all formula too.\u00a0 Milk is free!\u00a0 Healthier!\u00a0 Formula stinks!\u00a0 It&#8217;s expensive!\u00a0 But, I don&#8217;t want to keep pumping.\u00a0 Clearly this milk thing has to end SOME day.\u00a0 He can have cow milk soon anyway.\u00a0 Back and forth and back and forth.\u00a0 I just finished Tina Fey&#8217;s Bossypants book.\u00a0 The chapter on child raising and her breastfeeding experience is hilarious!\u00a0 Here are some quotes:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you choose not to love your baby enough to breast-feed, you can pump you milk using a breast pump.\u00a0 (This may be easier for the modern mom because it is an expensive appliance and we&#8217;re more comfortable with those than with babies.)&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;ve ever opened a can of infant formula mix, then you know it smells like someone soaked old vitamins in a bucket of wet leaves, then dried them in a hot car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/37080-img_2247.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/37080-img_2247.jpg?w=224\" width=\"239\" \/><\/a>&#8220;Teat Nazis are a solely western upper-middle-class phenomenon occurring when highly ambitious women experience deprivation from outside modes of achievement.\u00a0\u00a0 Their highest infestation pockets are Brooklyn and Hollywood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(Seriously a fun book.\u00a0 Family, it&#8217;s on kindle.\u00a0 Miranda, I was laughing with you through a lot of it.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s enjoy a couple more.)<\/p>\n<p>On making &#8220;me time&#8221; for new moms &#8220;Try to establish that you&#8217;re the only one in your family allowed to go to the post office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/ad2af-img_2256.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/ad2af-img_2256.jpg?w=225\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a>&#8220;By nineteen, I had found my look.\u00a0 Oversize T-shirts, bike shorts, and wrestling shoes.\u00a0 To prevent the silhouette from being too baggy, I would cinch it at the waist with a fanny pack.\u00a0\u00a0 I was pretty sure I would wear this look forever. . . I was nailing it on a daily basis.\u00a0 Find something like this for yourself as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s Ben and Jack in green and khaki, pretty much nailing it on a daily basis. \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Obviously I&#8217;m done talking about breastfeeding.\u00a0 Because all the guys who read my blog probably stopped reading already.<\/p>\n<p>So can I tell you how upset I am about fashion right now?\u00a0 I have a little spending money and want to get myself some nice, hip clothes so I can stop feeling like a college student.\u00a0 But in Boulder all I saw was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanoutfitters.com\/urban\/catalog\/productdetail.jsp?itemdescription=true&amp;itemCount=80&amp;startValue=1&amp;selectedProductColor=&amp;sortby=&amp;id=20406286&amp;parentid=W_APP_KNIT&amp;sortProperties=+subCategoryPosition,+product.marketingPriority&amp;navCount=40&amp;navAction=jump&amp;color=&amp;pushId=W_APP_KNIT&amp;popId=W_TOPS&amp;prepushId=&amp;selectedProductSize=\">this<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/store.americanapparel.net\/rsa0324.html?cid=930\">this<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forever21.com\/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&amp;category_name=top&amp;product_id=2070221720&amp;Page=2&amp;pgcount=100\">this<\/a>.\u00a0 Gah!!\u00a0 Are they going to start packaging the laundered BO smell of thrift stores as well?\u00a0 I ended up with a Colorado T shirt from Urban Outfitters.\u00a0 Ben pointed it out to me because he knows I have been looking for this shirt design for about ten years.\u00a0 It made up for the utter trash everywhere else. (But doesn&#8217;t help my campaign to stop looking like a college student.)<\/p>\n<p>I made some chocolate crinkle cookies week.\u00a0 If I hadn&#8217;t run out of 2% milk they would already be gone.<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/a8c4a-img_2220.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/eaumaison.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/a8c4a-img_2220.jpg?w=224\" width=\"239\" \/><\/a><br \/>Ben cooks dinner more than I do these days.\u00a0 It&#8217;s pretty awesome.\u00a0 Last night I came home to sloppy joes and mashed potatoes with veggies, jalapenos and cheese mixed in.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Amanda and I are planning Jack&#8217;s first birthday party.\u00a0 I KNOW.\u00a0 The first year goes so fast.\u00a0 I miss they days when I could cage him in my arms and force him to snuggle.\u00a0 Now he digs his fingers into my eyeballs and I release him quickly. Anyway, the party is turning into quite the craft extravaganza.\u00a0 I hope people come.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The Big Bang Theory is a great show.\u00a0 My family has been telling me this for years and I never &#8220;got&#8221; it.\u00a0 I wish I could watch them on netflix instant.\u00a0 We might reactive disk service for a month so I can get the other seasons.\u00a0 Maybe in the summer when the TV slows down.\u00a0 Wait!
